Poker Room Online Poker Games - Good or Not

I think there are certainly good points to consider in terms of the games offered by Pokerroom, but I have my usual reservations to make about about the same selection of boring avatars that sit there frozen in time. There are inevitable favourite avatars in this type set up, and of course we end up with four or five players at a table that all look identical. Apart from not making it easy to remember off the top of your head, which player has made what plays in the past, it just looks silly. Apart from this point though, I have to say the graphics and table backgrounds look professional, and very sharp.

In terms of the games on offer, there are Seven Card Stud games, Holdem of course, Omaha, and also Five Card draw. I think this is a good group of games to offer and should be enough to keep most players busy.
There are also all the different types of Multi and single table tournaments you would expect, along with the usual freerolls and satellites, and these things all help to make a good poker game available at almost any time at Pokerroom.
The good flow of player traffic on pokerroom is also helpful too, and in general I think the site is very good.
So if you were to sit down at a Pokerroom table today, I would say that you can expect a good game, and you can expect all your transactions to be very safe indeed. Obviously good luck is always conducive to feeling like you have had a good game of poker, but these aspects aside, you should enjoy playing here, regardless of how your luck happens to be running.

888 pacific pocker has a lot to be proud of in terms of the way it’s site has improved, and there are many new promotions and bonuses for players to enjoy on the site too.
888.com which runs it’s poker branch (pacificpocker.com), has an online forum, in which many poker based strategies and thoughts are shared, and this is a nice touch which many sites do not have to offer. Added to this is the opportunity for players to compete in Pacific pockers own open tournament, with a prize pool of almost $650,000. there are many other large scale tournaments in operation on a constant basis too, keeping players coming back to the site, for their shot at that elusive huge win.
If your friends like the sound of the promotions going on at pacific, then you could always refer them to the site pocketing both $50 for you and $25 for your friend in the process. As a new player referred friends should be happy to immediately be given a deposit bonus and a seat in a $1,000 freeroll. Such is the generous nature of pacific poker.
All these things make for a tempting prospect to any poker player and that is without even going into details about their loyalty scheme, and other ongoing promotions such as ‘Double or Nothing Tournaments’ which are currently running.
The details to all these, and instructions on how to get started are of course on the 888pocker homepage, so if you haven’t checked these great promotions out yet, then you most certainly should do.
Why is PokerStars So Popular

The popularity of pockerstars.com is somthing which has continued to grow over the years, as both serious, and recreational players find the site one of the finest in the industry to spend their time and money.

I think players like to see most of the large scale gaurantee tournaments and satellites offering a possible seat in a major live tournament, I know I do. The fact that a player can plot their path to greatness by sitting down at a satellite tournament, is an attractive prospect for any player, and pokerstars often have these types of tournament running.
If you are a new player to pockerstars you will receive a very competitive first time deposit bonus, and there are many freerolls available to help expand your bankroll.
With this in mind, I would say that one of the main reasons Pokerstars is so popular is that they are very careful to provide all the aids and comfort that a new player needs to start playing online. Furthermore, Pokerstars has a vast array of tournaments and promotions which specifically cater for the more experienced and serious poker player too.
The popularity of pockerstars.net is likely to grow further of course as the site becomes more well known and players accept it in their minds as a trusted name in the business, and deservedly so in my opinion. There are many poker sites in operation online but only a few are widely regarded to be amongst the best. It is my feeling that as long as Pokerstars continue to build on the excellent service they already provide, then what is currently a very popular site, will only improve.
Differences of Pot limit poker

Pot Limit play is probably the least talked about of the three varieties of betting. ‘No Limit’ play, is of course widespread, encompassing many worldwide major tournaments. The attraction with ‘No Limit’ is that all the money can end up in the middle at any moment. The game of Limit poker however, is entirely different.

In some games I would have to say that I prefer playing ‘Pot Limit’ poker. Omaha hi/lo for instance, is a game where I find there are many instances when I like to see a flop to get a feel for the direction my hand is going to take. Limit poker of course serves this function well too, but the difference is that with pot Limit play, you get the chance to put in a reasonable sized raise if you feel you need to.
Although my particular Pot limit game of preference is Omaha, the Pot Limit game has it’s place within Holdem too. Many tournaments are held in this format, and it still allows for sizeable betting, whilst keeping a level of control on the earlier raises in the hand. There is one problem I find with this type of play in Holdem games though. In Holdem I feel there are many instances where you need to put in a strong raise preflop to protect your hand. This is essential to the game, and if you are in early position especially, you will not be able to make a sufficient raise to protect a strong hand.
For the most part, you could probably say that many Pot Limit games are looser, because people feel safer getting involved and seeing a flop, and I particularly like this in some types of game. When it comes to Holdem however, I just feel it restricts key aspects of the game a little too much to be beneficial.
This Years WSOP Main Event

The main event this year got underway with 6,844 entrants and an assortment of people from across the world. Some were there just for the experience, some of course were pros hoping for a better run than the previous year. Over several days the field began to diminish as players left the room and went to pack their bags for the flight home, but there were some familiar faces who would have to wait a bit longer than most for their flight.

Phil Hellmuth had an excellent main event finishing up 45th place and was perhaps unlucky not to have got further. Mike Matusow finished 30th place which was a great result too, but the winner of this years main event remains undecided. Interestingly this year there is a new format in place where, once the final table has been decided the players go away and come back in early November to play out the final table. The reasons for this are said to be that it gives fans a chance to look forward to the final table and presumably build some anticipation as well as ‘bringing a new element’ to this years main event apparently.
Personally I cannot see how this will do anything extra for the event apart from perhaps giving the players a long period of time to recouperate before finishing the tournament.
When the final table is made up almost entirely of players that no poker fan has ever heard of, I cannot see that they will excitedly spend the next four months debating who will win. If Matusow and Hellmuth had been at the final table, then perhaps this would have been more likely, but it simply wasn’t to be.
Overall though, this years main event has been great, even watching the updates coming in online has been an enjoyable experience, and the series has been a very successful one for many top players and amateurs too.
What is String Betting at pockerstars.com and Why is it Illegal?

When a player takes off some of their stack and places it in the middle only to go back and reach for more chips to place in the middle as part of the same bet, this is a string bet at pockerstars.com.
In the situation of a player declaring the size of the raise before they bet in such a way, this would not be a problem because verbal bets are binding at pockerstars.
But string betting your chips without declaring the size of your bet first, is not allowed in online poker games. There is a simple reason for this too. Poker has always partly been about reading a persons reactions.
When you place a bet into the pot, it is important that you do not get the chance to read your opponents reaction to your first lot of chips going into the middle, before altering your decision to reach for more.
A bet has to be declared or signified by placing the correct amount in the middle in one movement or clear vocal announcement.
This means that everyone who makes a decision to bet a certain amount, has no chance to change their decision once they have put the chips into the pot. Any confusion in this type of situation could be very costly for a pocker player.
They might see their opponent placing 10,000 in chips into a pot at pockerstars.net and announce ‘call’ only to see the other player reaching back for his other 90,000 he wanted to put in with it, for instance.
For this reason it is integral to the game that bets are made in one continuous action, and that players are always clear about the size of the raise before they react to it.

2-7 Triple Draw at 888 pacific pocker

2-7 is a rather curious game at 888 pacific pocker, perhaps the result of looking down at the worst possible cards for a lengthy period of time whilst playing a usual variant of poker.
The aim of course is to make the lowest possible group of five unpaired cards. Each player is dealt five cards at pacificpocker.com and has the option to swap as many as they like on three occassions in each hand, with betting rounds in between.
Generally I like to have four cards 8 or lower to play a hand at 888pocker, but it is not always possible to wait for hands such as this to come around. Often three good low cards will have to suffice as long as it is not being made too expensive for you to play.
As with five card draw, the amount of cards your opponent is swapping give a strong indication of how strong their pocker hand is, so be very mindful of players swapping one or standing pat on the first round of draws. If this does happen and you are faced with a raise, then it is really a case of considering what your chances are of making your hand, as well as what the bet is to call, and the amount of players yet to act.
Once these things are factored into your considerations of the size of the bet you face at online poker, it is really a case of using your best judgement to come to a decision. 2-7 can be infuriating as a game, but the only sure way you can gain a long term advantage over your opponents I feel, is to know your pot odds and outs, and make carefully considered decisons. If you do this without fail, then you should be able to have some success over the long haul, especially as many players you will find online aren’t too experienced.

Party Poker has long been established as one of the best sites around, with good player bonuses and features, as such, it has excellent player traffic despite the loss of it’s U.S market. Players can find a game at most levels with relative ease.
The avatars and graphics are quite basic but there is choice to be had on which type of avatar suits you best. Everything else graphically works well and operates smoothly giving a good poker playing experience.
There are three types of poker to choose from on PartyPoker, Omaha, Stud and Holdem. Single table tournaments are always available and fill up quickly, as do multi tables. Prize packages are offered for land based tournaments with ongoing satellites to give a chance of winning your seat cheaply.
There is a first time bonus offer of 30% available which is accumulated as raked hands are participated in. This is slightly below average, but there are many other ongoing promotions to be taken advantage of in the attempt to bolster a bankroll.
PartyPoker also has an impressive points system for players, which can be exchanged for cash as well as tournament entries.
The site has always been well set out with tools in the lobby being easy to find and use, along with tournament listings. Overall I think PartyPoker is one of the stronger poker sites on offer and is certainly a site which I would happily play on, but it could perhaps do better with a few tweaks and improvements to continue it’s high standing.
